Web Design and Social Media job

cv Web Design and Social Media jobReally wasn’t sure what to do about this, I applied for a part-time Web Design and Social Media job for a Casino that was in dire need (and still is by the look of things). Their website was shockingly bad to the point that their list of requirements left very little to be desired and to be honest, I thought the job was mine and I had nothing to worry about. I’ve been playing around with HTML and CSS since 2005 and made so many websites on Geocities (RIP) between 2005-2006, I eventually lost count and couldn’t remember the login details for half of them by the time Yahoo finally called an end to it. And since 2006, I’ve been paying for my own web hosting and slowly building up the number of domains I own and websites I’ve made for them as a result. To be honest, I think I really do need a big sort out of all my websites and domain names as a few of them (affiliate websites) are either half built or out of date.

Anyway I digress, back to the Casino website… Here are the list of requirements they were looking for and for anyone who makes websites, you’re going to scoff at this list:

Job description

  • updating our website content
  • updating our intranet site
  • updating of our social networks
  • updating of our events listings
  • managing our google adwords
  • email marketing to our customers
  • setup SMS marketing campaigns
  • produce creative for advertising
  • produce creative for on-site use
  • reporting on our affiliates

Person requirements
Knowledge and experience of web development essential:
Experience using the following is advantageous:

  • WebPlus X5
  • PagePlus X5
  • MS Office Applications
  • MYSQL or MSSQL

So there you go, that is what they were looking for and that’s what has totally puzzled me. I’ve never used WebPlus X5 or PagePlus X5 which I told them in the email I sent but I also explained that NO Company website should ever be built using such amateur web tools which I can only guess didn’t go down too well. So I’ve waited two weeks now (sent the email 14th October) and finally just decided that I would take the opportunity to email the email address on their current website to see if the guy I emailed just didn’t get the email for whatever reason. Figured I had nothing to lose so the email has been sent and I guess I’ll never hear anything but it made me feel better.

I guess if I’m honest, it’s more annoying that I know I was ideal to take their website/business forward since without blowing smoke out of my own… I’m looking for these type of jobs after I finish University, so just in case you may be reading this and you know of any companies who need somebody who understands:

  • SEO and SEM (Adwords)
  • Social Media
  • Web Design (HTML & CSS)
  • WordPress (My CMS of choice)
  • Affiliate Marketing
  • Amongst other things…

::Edit::

I sent an email to the email address on the website Saturday night on a whim explaining that I applied for a job and the person I emailed never got back to me and that the website hadn’t been updated in the time I’d applied so I assumed they’d not found anyone yet. It was more a grumble than anything else and I wasn’t expecting to hear anything back for a few days so imagine my surprise to get an email back Sunday (30th October) telling me they’d forward on my email/address to the “management”…

::Edit::

Well it’s now Tuesday (1st November) and I have heard nothing so I’m writing it off…
